The Smith Group was founded by M. Lane Smith in February, 2017, after he served 9 years as an IBM System z software specialist out of Dallas Texas. Prior to his stint at IBM, Mr. Smith was Director of Sales for Yahoo! Broadcast, the company Mark Cuban founded. Mr. Smith also served in various sales and sales management positions over a 14 year period at BMC Software. The Smith Group began as a Certified IBM Business Partner, a re-seller of IBM software. Mr. Smith views a current inflection point regarding the perception of the IBM mainframe. Many customers have put off investing in the platform for many years with the position that the platform is not strategic.
Others have come to recognize that, in fact, their System z truly is the most available, reliable and secure platform in the industry and are now viewing it as strategic to their business. Regardless of your company's position on its mainframe, it must keep pace with your business. And as your business modernizes, so must your System z. The time has come to make changes. Since our inception The Smith Group has expanded our software and services provider base beyond IBM to include over 20 like minded companies such as Deloitte, Model9, Modern Systems, Evolveware, Sirius and HCL. The Smith Group is dedicated to ferreting out the most impactful IT technology that our other technology providers, have to offer, and bringing them to interested parties within IBM's mainframe customer base. The Smith Group is dedicated to helping IBM mainframe customers evolve to a level of modernization on par with, or superior to, their nonmainframe environments.
